DETAILS

*Registration has been closed* As a United Methodist Church leader, you may be aware that Immigration Law & Justice New York (formerly New York Justice for Our Neighbors) is an immigration legal ministry of the New York Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. We want to invite you to join us in celebrating and supporting this ministry at our 24th Anniversary Gala. This year’s Gala will be held on October 5th from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at Christ Church UMC at 524 Park Avenue in New York City, and will feature guests, awards, and include diverse performances. We see this as a special opportunity to reinvigorate and energize our ministry following a whirlwind year of thousands of new migrant arrivals seeking our help and support. Gala guests will first be guided to food curated by refugee chefs from Eat Offbeat. The Opening Prayer and Remarks will be offered by Bishop Thomas J. Bickerton, Resident Bishop of the New York Episcopal Area and President of the Council of Bishops of The United Methodist Church. The Keynote Address will be given by Kica Matos, President of the National Immigration Law Center. Rev. Paul Fleck will be presenting the Founder Award to Rev. Dr. Marjorie Nunes and the Helen Shum/ Lilia Fernandez Volunteer Award to Kate Boyd. Our night will close out with Afro-Venezuelan drum troupe Tambores Bombayá, two families who will be sure to get us all dancing. Performances will also include Skye Hamilton-Carranza's SHC collective. We are excited for the Gala and the opportunity to bring our community together for the benefit of our newest New Yorkers.
